Tetiana Kornieieva works at the intersection of documentary and visual art, utilizing archival video and audio materials. Her work intricately weaves architectural elements with the human form, highlighting their inherent fragility.
Windows epitomize vulnerability on one side and danger on the other. In Kyiv, many windows are taped to shield against debris from explosions, a testament to their dual nature. This fragility mirrors that of the human spine, where damage can irrevocably alter the body's architecture.
Kornieieva develops the concept of performative architecture as a political structure, creating a dynamic interplay between the body and architectural elements, and exploring the symbiotic relationship between human vulnerability and structural form in times of catastrophe.
In her performances, field recordings made in Kyiv during 2022-2024 are combined with electronic music, reflecting the city's soundscape after the full-scale invasion. The performance is a part of the research project "Anatomy of Hidden Fear," which explores community building and coexistence through the electronic
and experimental music scene in Ukraine during wartime. "BLACKOUT" reflects the liminal state at the border, blurring the lines between safety and danger, and offers a critical interpretation of the concept of so-called Western pacifism.
