In the performance "Anatomy of Hidden Fear," Tetiana Kornieieva delves into the intricacies of fear deliberately
concealed—an exploration conveyed through the convergence of sound and movement. A meticulously crafted metal
object, intricately modeled after the performer's own skeletal structure as revealed in an X-ray, serves as an
embodiment of concealed vulnerabilities and fears. Integrated contact microphone captures the nuanced sounds
emanating from the performer's movements, merging with a pre-composed soundscape drawn from the different
areas in Kyiv during the years 2022-2024. This artistic research combines the physicality of the metal object with the
auditory experience, creating a multi-sensory exploration of hidden fears and vulnerabilities.
The Anatomy Of Hidden Fear, as elucidated in the artist's exploration, is defined by the rhythmic cadence of people
dancing in the club* — a poignant manifestation of their endeavor to navigate and endure anxiety.
*Club K41, to which the artist refers, stands as a former brewery that played a significant role in the Podil district in downtown Kyiv in the past. This brewery not only employed Kyiv residents but also exerted a notable influence in fostering a local community. Following its closure, the edifice lay dormant for an extended period until 2019 when curators based in Kyiv and Berlin decided to transform it into a distinctive community space, nurturing the techno scene in Ukraine. During the tumultuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club operated on a part-time basis, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds into a cohesive community.
With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion, K41 assumed a new role as a volunteer hub, regularly collecting donations to support community members on the front lines and aiding the Ukrainian army. The members of K41 initiated projects such as "Rebuild Ukraine" and "Toloka," organizing music events to raise funds for reconstructing destroyed structures and homes in Kyiv and the Chernihiv region.
The project "Anatomy of Hidden Fear" functions as a method to delve into the intricate process of coexistence during
times of catastrophe. The artist's objective is to examine how the robust tradition of community building in Ukraine can
be transposed to EU. The project is ongoing.
